Zoo Town Brew Fest Lineup

MSO Brewfest
If you live in Missoula, and enjoy drinking beer, then I am sure that you are fully aware of what has happened in the last 10 years, but first, go back in time to 1986. At this time, Missoula Brewing had been out of business for over 20 years, and Americanized pilsners like Ranier dominated the market. In 1987, German brewmaster Jürgen Knö¨ller opened up Bayern Brewing, and the local craft beer industry had once again been established in Missoula. Five years after Bayern’s opening, Jürgen and a few other local business owners started an annual tradition that still holds today. The annual Garden City Brewfest had begun, and craft brew lovers have flocked to Caras Park in downtown Missoula for the event ever since.

Now, look back to just ten years ago. Believe it or not, there were only three breweries in Missoula. In the past 10 years, the love for craft beer has blown up to ridiculous proportions, and the greater Missoula area is soon to be home to over 10 breweries!

When you live in a city like Missoula, which is in a state that takes 2nd in the nation for breweries per capita, one brewfest is simply not enough. The first brewfest of 2016 was the Winter Brewfest, which was on February, 19th but there are still five more to come!

Remember, drink responsibly!

#NeverTrump

February 28, 2016

This presidential election is one of the most unique in recent history. It is nothing like the Obama-Romney election of 2012 or the Obama-McCain election of 2008. The two front runners for both parties are about as polarizing as you can get and for the first time in history, a woman is leading the polls on the democratic side and will likely win the nomination. Bernie Sanders is gaining ground from Millennial voters on the democratic side, but it is not clear yet whether this will carry him to beat Clinton. The republican side has been in a dog-fight for months, with Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio fighting for the 2nd place position, Carson and Kasich fighting to not be last, but all them combined with the GOP leadership are scrambling to topple the front-runner, Donald Trump.

A brilliant business man, Trump understands how to both get everyone talking about him and how to push his opponents off the deep end. He freely expresses controversial and rude statements towards immigrants, women, and his opponents. Never apologetic, Trump has gained a massive following for his comments and policies that don’t fit within the GOP voter block. He is an entertainer, but has a high chance of winning the republican nomination. It doesn’t seem like he plans his Everyone around him is trying to crush his momentum in any possible way. The news for the week revolved around his opponents calling Trump out to release his tax returns and Trump’s unwillingness to condemn a former leader of the KKK.

“NeverTrump” is trending on twitter, people are voicing their opinions and reasons to not vote for Trump. This isnt the first, and certainly wont be the last criticism of Trump on social media. Yet somehow, none of the negative things said against him or his campaign seems to gain any traction that would have any effect on his momentum. Trump is leading in all national and state polls, going into Super Tuesday it seems unlikely that he won’t come out on top.

I guess all that is left is the fight for second place, and the democratic nominee who would hopefully have enough support to beat him. It’s going to be an ugly fight until November, where the probability of “President Trump” grows from a possibility into a scary reality.

5 Strange Things to Prepare For In Montana

5 Strange Things to Prepare For In Montana

Living in Montana for the past few years, there has been a ridiculous amount of things I have come to love and welcome about the great state. At first, the things that seemed the most bizarre and strangest are things that are apart of my everyday life, and when I leave to go anywhere else I cannot seem to leave them behind. Without further ado, from visiting on your first trip, to moving here as an “out-of-stater,” here’s a few weird things you’ll have to get use to!

1. There’s just one area code… for the whole state!

4551555-2

It’s the weirdest thing to see, but when you just see seven numbers instead of the whole ten its weird… and trust me, it’ll throw you off everytime you go to tell someone your number or get anyone else’s. #canyouhearmenow

2. There IS a speed limit, but it’s fast enough

giphy

If you need to go anywhere faster than 80mph, you shouldn’t be driving, go try flying or something like that. We all know your car has more horse power than… well then actual horse, so we don’t need to see you hitting 100mph. #racecarspeltbackwardsisracecar

3. Everything is unlocked or open… like all the time!

giphy-3

Everything from the car doors, to the door on your house is constantly left open.  The mind boggling part is that nothing ever gets stolen! #knockknockwhosthere

4. You need to get use to talking to EVERYONE… and waving … and smiling… stop being mean and just be friendly

4551291

Yes its true, the Montana way of life is a happy one, so stop being pissed off, and staring into your phone (unless you’re reading this of course)! Everyone around you is usually willing to talk to you, no matter how weird you are! #justbefriendly

5. We actually have electricity!

giphy-2

Right? Who would have guessed! I still have people asking me if I ride horses around town, so just get ready to start answering that one now! #saynotocarrierpigeons

10 Cartoons You Miss From Your Childhood

Calling all 90’s babies! Let’s take a trip down memory lane for a little bit and reminisce on some of your favorite cartoons from when you were still running around in Pampers. Just kidding…about the Pampers…But for real when we were growing up. Let’s just get this out of the way now that OUR cartoons are at least 80 times better than cartoons today. The whole purpose of this is to be stoked about cartoons again! Then it will turn into you hating me because you’ll get the urge to want to go watch these shows. Sorry about it, but let’s have some fun!

  1. Rugrats

Rugrats is one of the shows that created the mold of 90’s cartoons being the best cartoons of all time. Not only was it a decent run of TV shows but two movies were created from this epic show. It surely must make you wish you were a child again when life was simple…

2. Scooby-Doo

Since there seems to be a thousand different versions of Scooby-Doo from movies to shows, I am obviously putting the O.G. Scooby-Doo version on this list. I also realize that it’s not a show from the 90’s but but from the 70’s but you can’t beat the classics! I mean who doesn’t like stoned hippies and a talking dog trespassing property to catch “ghosts”! 5-year-old’s can’t get enough.

3. Hey Arnold!

Easily one of the most iconic and memorable shows from the 90’s. It provided one of the most bizarre casts ever. A kid with a football-shaped head living with his grandparents of the inner-city doing hoodrat stuff with his friends. Certainly one of the favorites among 90’s kids.

4. Dexter’s Laboratory

Dexter’s Lab = Legendary. Dexter always seemed to have some sort of shenanigans going on only to be foiled by his sister DeeDee (oh yeah ringing a bell now!). One of Cartoon Network’s best shows in history and a popular favorite among many 90’s babies.

5. CatDog

This show was weird…but awesome…not much else to really be said about it other than it was fairly loved by us 90’s babies.

6. Powerpuff Girls

Pretty much every 90’s kid know what sugar, spice and everything nice make. Well with “Chemical X” it creates super-chicks! Nice. As a boy I can speak on behalf of all the other male viewers that watched this show and I can safely say that these three girls are badass! This show also had the best super villains and it taught us how to be responsible children (not that we were paying any attention).

7. Rocket Power

Everyone wants to be Otto Rocket, simple as that. My only question ever since I watched this as a kid is: “How the hell can these kids be better at snowboarding than me and they live on the beaches of Cali!?” In all seriousness these kids are RAD DUDE!

8. Magic School Bus

I vaguely remember watching this show since I was pretty little and it was pretty short-run but according to my mother I would get stoked to watch this show so it must have been awesome for a 3-year-old. It’s pretty hard to beat a bus that can shrink small enough to travel through a human body! Very stoked to hear that there will be a Netflix series of the Magic School Bus in 2016 (don’t hold me accountable if it doesn’t follow through).

9. SpongeBob SquarePants

Not a lot needs to be said about one of the best cartoons of all time other than there came a point in this shows career where episodes started to suck, unfortunately…However, I am now 21 years old and I still laugh at some of the first episodes. I have a little sister who is 9 years younger than me who also grew up on SpongeBob which proves this show is simply a powerhouse. If you ever want to binge watch some classic SpongeBob, hit me up.

10. Johnny Bravo

I never could understand why the chicks didn’t like Johnny Bravo…still don’t…he seems pretty smooth to me! Way smoother than I have ever been…Overall, it was actually a pretty good show and had a good run of about 7 years.

These shows are listed in no particular order and was very difficult to only pick 10 shows. Some honorable mentions are to be order to jog your memory even more than the list above:

Animaniacs, Talespin, Gargoyles, Pinky and the Brain, Garfield, Arthur, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Recess, Doug, Invader Zim, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Looney Toons, Thundercats, Pokemon, Tom & Jerry, The Wild Thornberries just to name a few.

5 St. Patrick’s Day Snacks That Will Leave You Feeling Lucky!

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner! The day of green beer, good luck, and everyone is Irish! I am going to help you make your St. Patrick’s day a little tastier with these fun, festive, and delicious treats.

Disclaimer: these are what the treats REALLY look like. I’m not a professional Pinterester so they may not be perfect, but that gives you a good idea of what they will realistically look like!

ONE: Little Lucky Bars (gluten & dairy free option)

Just like your traditional Rice Krispies Treats but with Lucky Charms.

IMG_2288What you will need:
– 8 cups of Lucky Charms
– 1 bag of mini marshmallows
– 1 tsp. of vanilla (optional – I like to add it)
– 3 tbs. of butter (I use vegan to avoid dairy)
– Green food coloring

Instructions:
1. Melt butter in large sized pot on stove
2. Add full bag of marshmallows to IMG_2304melted butter. Continue to stir         consistently to avoid burning the marshmallows until fully melted.
3. Add vanilla and about 5 drops of green food coloring and mix evenly.
4. Remove marshmallow mixture from heat and mix in 8 cups of Lucky Charms.
5. Once cereal is mixed in pour the mixture into a grease 8×12 inch cake pan and press down the top lightly until flat.
6. Let the mixture cool, then cut and serve!

TWO: Luck of the Irish Mix! (gluten-free)

Have you had Puppy Chow or Muddy Buddies? Make those ordinary treats a little more lucky with this Luck of the Irish Mix recipe!

IMG_2287What you will need:
– 1 bag of white chocolate chips
– 8 cups Chex cereal
– ½ cup peanut butter
– 1 tsp. of vanilla
– ¼ cup of butter
– 1 ½ cups of powdered sugar
– Green candies – I chose mint M&M’s
– Green food coloring

Instructions:
1. Combine chocolate chips, butter, and peanut butter in a medium microwavable bowl.IMG_2303

3. Add green food coloring and vanilla
4. Place Chex cereal in a large bowl and add melted mixture.
5. Stir thoroughly to make sure all pieces are coated
6. Add powdered sugar and mix well. This works best if you have a lid for your bowl so you can shake it.
7. Let the mixture cool.
8. Add sprinkles, M&M, Lucky Charms, or any other green candies!

THREE:  Irish Jell-O Shots (for the adults)
