Donald Trump’s “nasty woman” comment in the final US presidential debate, although intended as an insult, accidentally sparked an entire movement within the feminist community. Women everywhere are using the term to “celebrate feminine ambition, intelligence, and hard work”, according to Forbes. Regardless of the results, we all know how monumental this election is for women. Because, really, where would we be without a little nastiness?
So, for each day leading up to the 2016 Election Day, here are only a few of the nastiest women in history. Let them act as reminders of how far we’ve come… and how far we’ve yet to go.
On Wednesday, April 19, 1967, Kathrine Switzer became the first woman to run the Boston Marathon, even after the race’s organizer tried to tackle her mid-race. Along with figures like Billie Jean King, Kathrine paved the way for female athletes, inspiring lasting interest in women’s sports.
On Thursday, July 20, 1989, Aung San Suu Kyi was placed under house arrest for speaking out against the Burmese socialist government. The house arrest lasted 15 nasty years, but it didn’t stop her from climbing the political ranks to become State Counsellor of Myanmar, the position she currently holds.
On Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, Malala Yousafzai, at the age of 17, became the youngest Nobel laureate for her work advocating all children’s right to an education. Malala is also coincidentally the youngest nasty lady on this list, which is almost as big of an honor.
On Saturday, Oct. 10, 1903, Emmeline Pankhurst, with the help of her three nasty daughters, founded the Women’s Social and Political Union, which quickly and notoriously prompted the suffragette movement in Great Britain. (P.S. Emmeline Pankhurst is portrayed by Meryl Streep in the 2015 film, “Suffragette”. I love it when nasty women play other nasty women in movies.)
On Sunday, Aug. 19, 1883, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel was born. Raised as an orphan, Chanel would later revolutionize the fashion world, taking elements from men’s clothing to emphasize comfort over the strict constraints of then-popular women’s fashion. As a woman who wears pants almost every day, thanks Coco, ya nasty female.
On Monday, Sept. 8, 1986, The Oprah Winfrey show began broadcasting nationally. As one of the most successful media moguls in history and also one of those rare people you can refer to by only their first name, Oprah is definitely one nasty lady.
On Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, the original “nasty woman” gets the closest any woman has been to becoming President of the United States. Regardless of what you think of Hillary Clinton, there is a lot to be said about what she has accomplished for women everywhere.
I’m sure most of us have had dreams so bizarre, so outrageous, and memorable that you find yourself asking why? Why did I have this dream, and what does it mean? Below, I have listed some of the most common and bizarre dreams people frequently have and why they have them.
Teeth Falling Out Dream
After doing some research I discovered that many people frequently have a recurring dream where their teeth fall out. In the dream individuals will be doing everyday things, such as brushing their teeth, working, eating, and socializing with friends. As they perform these tasks, for whatever reason teeth will suddenly detach from their gums, falling to the floor or into the individual hands. According to Feud, the dream represents various sexual references, such sexual repression or fear of castration for men. Others such as Jung believe that the dream represents issues with personal power and the ability to renew oneself. For instance, the dream represents a fear of change or losing something that is important to you. Many have reported having the dream after experiencing dramatic life changes. Life changes such as death, aging, moving away, loss of friendships, and other life changing situations.
Paralysis Nightmare
I actually have had experience with this reoccurring nightmare. Sleep paralysis occurs when a person is either falling asleep or awakening, temporarily experiences an inability to move, speak, or react. In my dream I am fully conscious lying in my bed, making the dream appear to be very realistic. As I lay there, a shadowy figure either stands by my bed or in the corner of the room. I want to jump out of bed and scream at who or whatever it is, but can’t because I am paralyzed. It’s as though my fight or flight response is nonexistent, and I am at the mercy of the intruder. The figure in my dream varies, most of the time it’s a shadowy man wearing a hood. Sometime it can be a woman with long black hair, and others it can be an alien shaped figure, with the classic large head and thin abdomen. References of this nightmare have been used in many Hollywood movies, such as Insidious and Dark Skies. (See Pics Below) The cause of this nightmare comes from stress or extreme exhaustion. I usually have this nightmare during stressful times where I don’t get lot of sleep, such as finals week.
Being Late
As we grow older we are faced with greater responsibilities, such as being on time. This dream is very common for many adults and includes being late for an appointment, college exam, work meeting, children’s sporting event, etc. The dreams meaning can vary, but for the most part represents taking too much time away from individual needs, such as leisure and personal accomplishments, creating a sense that time is running out. Essentially the dream is a symbol of the frustration toward the obligations one has in their life. It can also be correlated with difficulty making decisions with new opportunities, or a fear of change, the sense that you are missing out on life’s opportunities
The Classic Falling Dream
The classic dream where one loses their balance and suddenly falls out of control. This dream is very common and usually represents interpersonal issues such as insecurities, instability, and anxieties. The dream emphasizes a sense of being overwhelmed, out of control, and helpless as you fall. The dream can be correlated with issues with failure or an inferiority complex. Life experiences such as job loss, poor academic performance, and relationship issues can be the catalyst for the dream. According to Freud, the dream represents contemplating situations, such as giving into sexual urges or impulses. This dream occurs during the first stage of sleep, the individual is not completely paralyzed. The dream is usually accompanied with muscle spasms of the arm or leg, causing the individual to wake up before hitting the ground.
Chasing Dream
This dream consists of being chased by something, usually a viscous dog or person. As the individual is being chased they find themselves too slow or unable to move. This dream deals primarily our fight or flight response. The dream usually represents an individual or issues that were trying to avoid, but unfortunately cannot. These issues can include inter and intra personal conflicts. For instance aging can be represented in the dream. For people who are afraid to get old the chaser can represent the issue or conflict you are trying to avoid or escape.
I am all for State’s Rights and the right each state has to choose a process in which the elections are conducted. But for the efficiency of the electoral process, it should be simplified and semi-standardized throughout. As an example, the Iowa caucuses were a nightmare this year. Several of the districts came down to a coin flip. Which of course, begs the question: is it an accurate representation of populous? Maine and Nebraska seem to have a comprehensive system where each congressional district gives the represented elector to the winner and then the spare two go toward the overall statewide winner. It gives each citizen a greater impact on where the vote goes.
I hate the way the primary debates are shaped and executed. Hate. Hate. Hate. For a year and a half we listen to a handful of grown people bash each other on live television and attack after attack on what the other candidates have done wrong. Especially this past election cycle with the GOP debates having shouting matches between the candidates and even with the moderators. During the MSNBC GOP debate, there were several moments when arguments got so off topic because the far left moderators weren’t asking informative questions and the far right candidates felt attacked by accusations and leading questions. As a voter who still isn’t sure about the candidate I would prefer to have in office, the debates don’t do shit for me. They need to be controlled better and limited to answering questions about policy not defending someone’s attack. Also, the moderators need to be impartial and not ask leading questions to get a rise out of a candidate and ask informed questions, so that an (admittedly ignorant) voter like me can have a chance of learning what platforms these candidates stand for.
Primary Debates (Again).
I said I hate the debate system. I meant it. I’m also a person who doesn’t necessarily identify with a particular political party, but rather finding a leader with ideas and policies I support. So I would want to see cross party debates in the primaries so they can be measured up all at once, pick the top 4-5 candidates from each party and pit them against each other in open debate and discussion. It would be a good place for a highly undecided voter to see the candidates’ platforms. It’s also extremely unappealing to listen for a year about how shitty each of the candidates are, and then one by one, as they drop out of the race all of a sudden they encourage supporters to support the leader two months ago they were calling incompetent and unqualified. The flip flopping of support is very annoying and seems like they are either lying now about supporting the frontrunner, or they lied earlier about why the frontrunner was a schmuck.
Electoral College Donald Trump. Trump. Marco Rubio. Rubio. Ben Carson.
I am in the boat that my vote doesn’t count (although I absolutely do vote so I can legitimately reserve my right to complain). However, it is hard to say that my vote actually means something when the past two presidential elections have been called by the time my state’s election is even over. A nation-wide popular vote would make every single vote count more since my part of three EC votes doesn’t even affect the outcome of the race.
This presidential election is one of the most unique in recent history. It is nothing like the Obama-Romney election of 2012 or the Obama-McCain election of 2008. The two front runners for both parties are about as polarizing as you can get and for the first time in history, a woman is leading the polls on the democratic side and will likely win the nomination. Bernie Sanders is gaining ground from Millennial voters on the democratic side, but it is not clear yet whether this will carry him to beat Clinton. The republican side has been in a dog-fight for months, with Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio fighting for the 2nd place position, Carson and Kasich fighting to not be last, but all them combined with the GOP leadership are scrambling to topple the front-runner, Donald Trump.
A brilliant business man, Trump understands how to both get everyone talking about him and how to push his opponents off the deep end. He freely expresses controversial and rude statements towards immigrants, women, and his opponents. Never apologetic, Trump has gained a massive following for his comments and policies that don’t fit within the GOP voter block. He is an entertainer, but has a high chance of winning the republican nomination. It doesn’t seem like he plans his Everyone around him is trying to crush his momentum in any possible way. The news for the week revolved around his opponents calling Trump out to release his tax returns and Trump’s unwillingness to condemn a former leader of the KKK.
“NeverTrump” is trending on twitter, people are voicing their opinions and reasons to not vote for Trump. This isnt the first, and certainly wont be the last criticism of Trump on social media. Yet somehow, none of the negative things said against him or his campaign seems to gain any traction that would have any effect on his momentum. Trump is leading in all national and state polls, going into Super Tuesday it seems unlikely that he won’t come out on top.
I guess all that is left is the fight for second place, and the democratic nominee who would hopefully have enough support to beat him. It’s going to be an ugly fight until November, where the probability of “President Trump” grows from a possibility into a scary reality.
Donald Trump in a bold move has announced his intentions to settle the remaining GOP primaries via “something akin to fight club”.
In a shocking turn of events the real estate mogul turned self funded politician announced his plan at a NASCAR rally in Chattanooga, Tennessee ahead of the state’s primary.
“Look at these guys, scrawny fellas right? America was made great by burly beavermen who chopped wood with their own damn hands. We are a country united by our strength and love of protein shakes. Our founding fathers gave us the right to bare arms yet I haven’t seen a politician actively stand by that constitutional right since. Listen folks, we need a leader that knows how to lift. How can we respect a candidate who doesn’t respect mad gains?”
“You guys ever see that movie Fight Club? I think that was a good system. Men asserting their power with their fists. The voting establishment of today doesn’t guarantee us a strong president or one with mad judo skills for that matter. Look at how they do this in Russia people, Putin came to power by boxing a bear and look where Russia is today. The point I’m trying to make here is that voting won’t give us the strongest leader ; which is why I’m calling out Rubio, Cruz, Kasich, and Carson to be men. Mano a mano, Trump Tower, Tomorrow”
In an interview later that day when asked why he took this drastic turn he responded by calling the other candidates “sweaty nerds who don’t even lift”, he followed “that this is probably their only chance at winning”.

“I can do like 8 pull ups, these losers don’t stand a chance”
With Trump currently standing in the WWE Hall of Fame and being a former owner of Monday Night Raw this move to take his dominance in the polls to a physical arena comes as no surprise to pundits the world over. Vice President Joe Biden has already stepped forward to offer his skills as referee. Leaders the world over are already firmly grasping their lunch money in anticipation of the results of this election year.
